Available Scholarship Opportunities

Each scholarship fund has specific eligibility criteria which are determined by donors when the scholarship is created. Examples of eligibility criteria include: community of residence, school attended, grade point average, future plans, financial need, or other criteria. In addition, the Community Foundation Alliance and our Community Foundation affiliates are the local administrators of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program.

The scholarship application is simple to manage through our online application system. Scholarship Renewals

Recipients of the following Vanderburgh Community Scholarship may apply for renewal of the scholarship award. Please be aware that your failure to submit the renewal form by the specified date will result in your ineligibility to be considered for this year’s and future scholarship renewal awards.

  • Clarence and Dorothy Gerard Scholarship for Nursing

    Annual, renewable scholarship created by the estate of John Gerard in honor of his parents. The scholarship will provide educational support to a graduate of a Posey, Vanderburgh, or Warrick County high school to pursue a nursing degree at a college or university in Southwestern Indiana.

    Renewal Details

    Renewable for consecutive sophomore, junior, and senior years provided the recipient continues to pursue a nursing degree and remains in good standing with the college and pre-nursing/nursing program. Renewal award amounts may differ from the original award. Renewal applications will be assigned to renewal candidates in their online student accounts.

  • Melba Jean Racener Scholarship

    Annual, renewable scholarship created through the estate plan of Melba Jean Racener.

    Renewal Details

    Renewable for consecutive sophomore, junior, and senior years provided the recipient continues to pursue a degree in advertising, marketing, communications, or a related field and maintains a minimum 3.0 Cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale).

    A new recipient for the award will be identified once every four years. In the event the recipient does not apply for renewal, the scholarship will be open to new applicants the following year. Renewal applications will be assigned to renewal candidates in their online student accounts.

  • Robert “Bubba” Jochum Scholarship

    Annual, renewable scholarship created by Leroy and the late Marilyn Jochum in honor of their son Robert Thomas “Bubba” Jochum. Bub was born March 20, 1967, at Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation in North Dakota. He graduated from F.J. Reitz High School in 1985. Bub was an athlete and a great friend. He played football at Reitz and played baseball at German Township. He married Mindy Lutz-Jochum in 2002. Bub worked for several years at the Boys and Girls Club of Evansville and at Ferro Plastics. He was a terrific uncle, brother and son. Bubs died in December 2003 due to complications from surgery. This scholarship recognizes Bubs’ interest in the welfare of children and the diverse ways students can use college studies to improve the lives of children.

    Renewal Details

    Renewable for consecutive sophomore, junior, and senior years provided the recipient continues to pursue a degree provided the recipient continues to pursue post-secondary education majoring in a course of study that will benefit youth, such as education, social work, parks administration, sports administration, urban development, psychology, or sociology and maintains a minimum 3.0 Cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale). A new recipient for the award will be identified once every four years. In the event the recipient does not apply for renewal, the scholarship will be open to new applicants the following year. Renewal applications will be assigned to renewal candidates in their online student accounts.
