Spencer County Community Foundation Awards 10 Grants Over $34,000

The Spencer County Community Foundation recently presented grant awards totaling over $34,000 to 10 organizations serving Spencer County. The grant recipients are as follows: Junior Achievement of Southwestern Indiana, Grandview Civic Association, Santa Claus Police Department, Christian Resource Center, Bread of Life Ministry, Inc., Spencer County Habitat for Humanity, Lincoln Hills Development Corporation, Town of Gentryville, Success Through Mentoring, and American Red Cross. The grants were made possible by people and organizations establishing to and contributing to funds held by the Foundation.

Junior Achievement (JA) of Southwestern Indiana was awarded $4,250 to serve 839 students through a combination of both in-classroom and/or virtual experiences. JA serves students at schools within the North and South School Corporation. The Community Foundation funds used to support this grant were: AK Steel Fund and Mike and Mabel Mason Ryan Unrestricted Fund. 

Grandview Civic Association was awarded $6,000 for the purchase of supplies and materials to repair the exterior of the Grandview Civic Center. The building is utilized for community meetings, events, gatherings, and festivals. The Community Foundation funds used to support the grant were: Trustee Community Fund and Mike and Mabel Mason Ryan Unrestricted Fund.

Santa Claus Police Department was awarded $2,924 for the purchase of four Axon body cameras to be worn by officers when on duty. The Community Foundation funds used to support the grant were: Cevin and Debra Collins Family Fund and Mike and Mabel Mason Ryan Unrestricted Fund. 

The Christian Resource Center was awarded $5,500 to purchase items and equipment to expand the Food Pantry to a larger and more efficient building. The goal of the expansion is to increase food availability to all clients regardless of age groups and to increase the visibility of the food pantry thus allowing to serve more families and individuals whom are food insecure in Spencer County. The Community Foundation funds used to support the grant were: Ruby L Winkler Family Fund and Mike and Mabel Mason Ryan Unrestricted Fund. 

Bread of Life Ministry, Inc. was awarded $2,100 to cover the cost of freight for donated food and to purchase food items at a discounted cost to distribute to low income families. The Community Foundation funds used to support the grant were: Todd and Angie Ruxer Family Fund and Mike and Mabel Mason Ryan Unrestricted Fund.

Spencer County Habitat for Humanity was awarded $6,000 to cover the cost of plumbing in the new home for a low income Spencer County family. The Community Foundation funds used to support the grant were: Thermwood Fund and Mike and Mabel Mason Ryan Unrestricted Fund.

Lincoln Hills Development Corporation was awarded $1,000 to provide emergency preparedness kits for elderly and preschool children to help prepare them for disasters and emergencies. The Community Foundation fund used to support the grant was: Mike and Mabel Mason Ryan Unrestricted Fund.

The Town of Gentryville was awarded $1,434.98 for the purchase of two medical bags for patrol cars and one AED for the Town Hall. The Community Foundation fund used to support the grant was: Mike and Mabel Mason Ryan Unrestricted Fund. 

Success Through Mentoring was awarded $2,600 for the purchase of materials and equipment for the new community garden project in Richland, IN.  The Community Foundation fund used to support the grant was: Mike and Mabel Mason Ryan Unrestricted Fund. 

American Red Cross was awarded $2,500 to fully fund one blood drive in Spencer County.  The Community Foundation fund used to support the grant was: Mike and Mabel Mason Ryan Unrestricted Fund.
